Sorry, Nothing is Everything 2015, video installation (two channel projection and readymade frame), 15 min ∞
Sorry, Nothing is Everything is a two-channel video installation piece. One channel, a 1:1 projection, shows documentation of an act somewhere between performance and ritual (still shown here). Based on baptism rituals, but rid of language and liturgy, what remains is the artist at odds with the waves of the sea, trying to hold position against the upcoming tide. The second channel shows a seemingly nonsensical deconstructed word sequence (video shown on this page), projected onto the back of an old frame which leans against the wall. Both channels loop at slightly different durations, making for varying text-image pairings throughout the loop.
The piece springs from an interest in the differentiation between the 'ceremonial' and the 'ritual' (after Victor Turner), and the search for a space of experientiality within liturgized ritual and symbolism.
